A healthy low fat recipe for dog treats

Jack snacks 01webThese low-fat treats make an ideal substitute for more fattening snacks from the pet shop – and they’re very tasty too!

  • ½ pint (250ml) hot water
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 stick celery, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated

Dissolve the stock cube in the hot water and add to the flour and vegetables in a large mixing bowl. Add the stock gradually to form a thick dough, which you can roll out on a well-floured surface until it is about 1 cm thick. Then cut out small biscuit shapes using a knife or the end of an apple corer. Try and make the biscuits a little bit smaller than normal – every little helps when it comes to cutting down the calories!

Place the biscuits on a greased baking tray and cook in a moderate over for about half an hour. Allow to cool and ration with steely determination! (store in the fridge in an airtight container for several weeks)
