Pussy Cat Pizza

Made with a healthy Joe & Jill’s based base, and topped with fish, this is a new twist on the Italian pizza tradition, specifically designed for the more adventurous feline palate (in other words, not all cats will like this!)

For one cat pizza, you’ll need:

  • 50g Joe & Jill’s
  • 25g plain flour
  • 20g butter or margarine
  • 1 tin oily fish – mackerel, sardines or pilchards – in a tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon catnip
  • 30g grated cheddar cheese

This bit is about as much fun as you can have in the kitchen - take small handfuls of the Joe & Jill’s, wrap it up in an old tea towel, and bash it to bits with a rolling pin. Keep this up until you’ve reduced all the kibble to a fine powder. Just watch your fingers because, believe me, it hurts when you whollop them with the rolling pin!

Next, moisten the kibble powder with enough warm water to make it into a really moist and gooey mess. Leave it to stand for ten minutes, and add more water if you need to, as the kibble absorbs a lot of water. Then add in the flour and butter, and mix it all together to form a thick dough. It should form up into a nice dry ball which you can roll out on a floured surface until it’s about ¼ inch thick.

For the topping, spread the fish in tomato sauce over the base and sprinkle on the grated cheese and catnip.

Cook in a moderate oven for 20-25 minutes – until the top is golden brown. Allow to cool thoroughly and then slice into wedges before serving.

A Heart for Valentines Day

If the 14th February comes around and you find yourself all alone with no-one to share the romantic day with, you could do worse than cook up this tasty meal for your cat. After all, the cat won’t disappoint by not turning up, or make excuses and leave early, and he’s guaranteed to listen as you pour your feelings out.

So, cook up this meal, order yourself a takeaway, open some wine, and cuddle up with the contented cat on the sofa and watch a romantic film on the box. Who needs a real valentines date anyway!

For one romantic cat meal, you’ll need:

  • 200g beef heart
  • 50g liver
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated carrot
  • 50g finely chopped spinach
  • 2 eggs
  • 50g rice

Boil the heart for about fifteen minutes, then add the liver to the pan and continue to cook for another five minutes. Drain and cut up the heart and liver into dice-sized pieces.

Gently cook the carrot in the oil before adding in the spinach and cooking for a few minutes – until it has reduced down. Meanwhile, boil the rice and drain when cooked, and beat the eggs together in a mixing bowl.

Add the heart, liver, carrot and spinach, and rice to the egg mixture and combine thoroughly. Then return to the frying pan and cook, stirring continually, until the eggs are cooked. Cool and serve with a romantic sigh…
